I am looking at easily constructed building for a semi-permanent camping site we have up in the mountains. I want it to be easy to build and easy to maintain…and be able to be put up by one person. This is why I am looking at Yurts. They do look easy to make and can be as elaborate or as simple as you want to make them.
I like the idea of being able to use a variety of building materials when building one. For example, the walls can be made out of just about any material. You could use simple plastic sheeting if you were building a summer time Yurt. You could use thick canvas, leather(if you were way too wealthy), cotton fabric, denim, polypropylene. In other words, anything that will keep out the weather to some degree. I am looking at using a two layer approach for my walls, first a layer of plastic sheeting and then overlay it with a jacket material. It’s fabric used for the shell of jacket, ie polyester. You buy it by the rolls and it’s relatively cheap. I think it’ll make a decent covering.
I’ll fill in with more details from time to time about this Yurt project so stop back by.
