Web Hosting Update
I started a web hosting business a few months ago, but I haven’t really made any update since I announced I was starting it. My goal was to sign up local businesses to the service and make money by coming up with hosting and design packages.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to devote to marketing my service. I have had a more profitable time doing other work. Big surprise there. I have also found that it’s easier to market web hosting affiliate links. I am paid a one off payment that is as much profit as I could make hosting a site for several months. Why host sites myself when I can make more from the referrals?
New Thoughts on Reselling
I have been in a bit of a quandary on how I would organize my hosting and design business I am trying to put together. I had previously said that I would be getting a reseller account, but now I am having second guesses. One thing is clear, I need to do things right from the get go.
Part of this means having something in reserve and it means that I need to keep have plenty of capacity. To this end, I will be going with a triple threat. A main VPS, a main reseller account and a cheap backup VPS. This means I can be well prepared for anything that comes down. It also means that I have plenty of capacity to offer my potential customers.
Now comes the hard part, getting the customers.
Taking the Plunge
It looks like I am going to take the plunge and jump into the world of reseller hosting. I have been contemplating it for a few weeks, but I just needed to feel a big push to make it all happen and that I have done . I am going to sign up for reseller account.
Why a reseller account? I have had a VPS for close to 2 years and it serves me well, but I do a lot of experiments on it. I suppose I could add a VPS and set it up for hosting, but I don’t think I really have the demand at this point. In fact, I don’t have a single customer, but I will be adding most of my sites to the reseller account. I want to be able to install things and forget things.
With a VPS, I need to keep on top of things and manage things. I may not care to spend all of my time doing that so it’s better that I get someone else to handle that and with the price of reseller accounts these days, it will be a good buy.
Right now I am trying to figure out who my provider will end up being. I am not sure, so we will see. It’s a fight between two providers.
Any ideas on how to market my new hosting company?
