Ah, the bane and the holy grail of internet marketing all in one. Yes, I am talking about pagerank. I just came across an article on true pagerank over on the Stylish Design site. It’s got to be one of the best explanations of pagerank that I have seen in quite some time. If you don’t know what pagerank is, check the article out.
I like how the article brought up the fact that pagerank is based on a logarithmic scale. In short, a log scale means that high pagerank values are further apart in true pagerank than low pagerank values. That makes sense when you think about it. If it wasn’t the case then there wouldn’t very much differentiation between sites at the low of the scale.
All in all the article on true pagerank was very informative and didn’t delve too much into specific pagerank values. For me, I find pagerank to be confusing. While they say it is based solely on the number of links, I think Google has a special algorithm that gives more value to certain types of sites than others. I like to give the example of my friends site that had a PR4 rank but only one backlink. You guessed it, it came from my PR2 teaching site.
Anyways, speaking about what makes up pagerank and how the number is computed, you can read an article on fighting for more pagerank on the Stylish Design site.
